Tips to getting the best SVG

  1.  Use an image on a clear background if possible. Images with backgrounds are harder to convert.  You can clear up the image background by using online editors like picmonkey.
  2. Use images that are sharp and in focus.  Images that have a fuzzy outline (pixelated) are harder to convert.
  3. The object or person is clearly defined from the background.
  4. Image is larger than 500 x 500.
  5. Create simple shapes

What is the difference between SVG, PNG or JPG

SVG stands for Scable Vector Graphic which basically means you can take an image and make it as small or large as you like without loosing any quality.  Images / Graphics are made up with pixels. SVG the ideal format for larger images so you wont end up with blurry images on your crafts. Another benefit is that images can be converted into layers so you can manipulate them into different colors.

What is a JPG file?

JPG is a tricky format.  Generally speaking, when you think of JPG, think of photos.  They are high resolution (millions of pixels) images that are perfect for the Print and Cut feature in Cricut Design Space, but do not work well to convert into SVG’s.  However, a lot of people save simple designs in this format which can be converted with no problems.

What is a PNG file?

PNG stands for Portable Network Graphics.  This image does not loose quality after compression.  The easiest way to determine if an image is a png, it is an image sits on a transparent background.
